Approaching a 3-day weekend can really make the week seem extra long, can’t it? I’m definitely looking forward to some time at the lake this weekend and some relaxation because y’all, these past 2 weeks have been a doozy and whirlwind for me.
I try to keep everything together most days but today was just OFF. You ever have one of those days? I woke up feeling like I was going to breakdown in tears and I couldn’t really pinpoint why. I chalk it up to exhaustion from being go, go, go the past 2 weeks. And when I say go, go, go I mean it… I’ve been on the train 6 times in the past 9 days (too much for this girl, or anyone!). With the exhaustion, I’ve had a cough/sore throat/and congestion since Friday that keeps getting better and then comes right back, not helping with the tiredness.
In the back of my head the past 5 days or so I could hear that voice in the back of my head telling me to rest, but rest is really not an easy thing for me. When I was in the worst of my fight with Lyme Disease a couple of years back rest was all I could do. I think all that time spent lying around lit a fire under me when I got better that I needed to do ALL the things – rest wasn’t an option. Then of course, when I get to the point where I feel exhausted, run down and some of my symptoms creeping back, I realize how important that rest part actually is. I’m still learning over here!
It’s totally ok to take a day off of working out, head out from work before 6, watch a movie on the couch, or just TAKE A NAP (can I get an amen?!). Additionally, when I am resting and taking time to care for myself when I feel run down I try to fuel my body with foods that are packed with nutrients and will get me on my way to feeling my best. I try to avoid greasy, fried foods and carbs and stick with veggies, lean protein, and fruit. It really does make a huge difference!
Today, I’m sharing one of my go-to smoothie recipes that is not only a staple in my weekly routine but something I whip up when I’m rundown, super busy, and need something quick, yummy, and most importantly healthy. I hope you enjoy and take the time to rest when you need it too! Xx
I’d love to know what you do to relax, rest, and unwind after busy weeks or when you need it most? Let me know in the comments below.
Creamy Green Smoothie Recipe
1/2 Frozen Banana (non-frozen will work too, just won’t be as creamy)
1 Cup Spinach
1/4 Cup Assorted Fruit (I use Pineapple, Mango, and Strawberries)
2 Tbsp Fresh Ground Almond Butter
1 Cup Plain Unsweetened Almond Milk (I eye-ball this)
I always start with the spinach first and layer it on the bottom, but after that throw everything into your smoothie cup, blend and enjoy! I sometimes even add in a scoop of Tone It Up’s Plant Based Protein Powder for a chocolate-y treat.
