5 Fall Basics You Need In Your Closet (And Probably Already Have)

Fall and wardrobe basics go together like  french fries and ketchup (my fave). I love the fall season because pieces are easy to style multiple ways instead of summer time tanks that are hard to mix and match sometimes. Based on all my years of shopping I’ve realized there are a few keys pieces I consistently reach for in my closet fall after fall. I’ve rounded up here the 5 fall basics your closet needs (and might already have!). What are your favorite fall basics? Let me know in the comments below!

A Layering Tee

Every closet needs not one, but many tees that you can throw on with a cardigan, vest, jacket and look put together. I love layering tees for just that and wear mine with just about everything. I always stock up on short sleeve and long sleeve tees depending on what I’m layering with. One of my fave ways to layer is to throw a striped tee under a sweater for a fun pop.

A Cozy Scarf

I love a good blanket scarf starting in the fall because it can serve multiple purposes. I love the feeling of having one on around my neck as it keeps my whole upper half warm and cozy. Scarves can add the final touch to your outfit and neutral ones with multiple colors in them can pair easily with sweaters, tees, and cardigans. I love them for traveling too because the big ones can double as a wrap or blanket when you’re chilly. I’ve linked my favorites below, all different price points depending on what you’re looking for.

Neutral Booties

I’m a sucker for a cute pair of boots and neutral ones are at the top of my list. I always try to make sure they are comfy for walking a good amount and that I can pair them with multiple things already hanging in my closet.  These three below are my go-to’s for style and comfort! And if you haven’t already heard me rave about the Taupe Jeffrey Campbell booties below, let me tell you, THEY ARE SO GOOD!

Two Pairs of Good Denim

The reason I say it’s essential to have two pairs of good jeans in your closet it because there are somethings you’ll wear with a pair of blue jeans and then some you will wear with black. There are also the outfits that look great with both pairs, so then you have two different looks. I’ve been OBSESSED with Madewell denim lately. The rise is perfect and they fit so well – always hugging in all the right places. They also don’t stretch out to much, but are super comfy which I love. IMO the quality is well worth the price! I’ve linked my  favorite pairs here, including my tried and true AG Jeans that I can vouch for. Also, did you know that when you take in a pair of old jeans to Madewell you will get $20 off towards your next denim purchase at their store? So sweet.

Sweaters You Can Mix and Match

One of the best things about fall? The sweaters. Cue all the heart eyes over here. I love getting ready in the fall because it’s so easy to throw on a sweater, scarf, jeans, and a pair of booties and look put together, cute, and warm. It also makes getting dressed for those freezing office temperatures a little easier since you know you’ll be nice and cozy.
